Car accidents are increasing across the state

Most drivers in Louisiana are well aware that roadways across the state are becoming increasingly crowded. As a result, car accidents are happening more and more these days. Unfortunately, the majority of drivers will be involved in a crash at some point in their lives. When a crash ends in death or injury, the experience can be absolutely devastating.

A recent crash in St. Tammany Parish killed one driver and injured another. The accident happened during the evening hours along Interstate 12 near Highway 11. Reports said the driver of a westbound sedan was traveling in the right lane and, for unknown reasons, drifted onto the right shoulder of the roadway.

According to reports, the sedan struck an unoccupied SUV that was parked on the shoulder then veered back onto the highway. After re-entering the roadway, the sedan was reportedly struck by a tractor-trailer. Authorities said the driver of the sedan was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer was injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment, police said.

It goes without saying that no person wants to be involved in a crash. Today, going for just a short drive in Louisiana has the potential to turn into a serious or fatal accident. When the negligence of another party causes injuries or death in car accidents, victims or, in the case of fatal victims, surviving family members should know that they have the option to take legal action. Damages from a successfully litigated lawsuit could help ease the pain and suffering of victims and/or families affected by a tragic accident.
