The drug problem in Louisiana continues to be the focus of many law enforcement investigations. Anyone caught up in the process of these investigations and charged with a crime has a right to a criminal defense. A recent case in Baton Rouge resulted in the arrest of a man charged with possession of a large amount of the drug known as ecstasy.

An investigation resulted in officers executing a search warrant that reportedly netted the seizure of ecstasy and other narcotic drugs as well as the arrest of the suspect. Firearms that were allegedly stolen were also retrieved as part of the executed warrant. The drugs that were reportedly confiscated included ecstasy and methamphetamine. Firearms reported to have been found included multiple AR-15s as well as several handguns. Two of the handguns had been reported stolen.

Based on the information reportedly gathered from the arrest, officers were able to obtain an additional search warrant for a second property. That search reportedly yielded more drugs including ecstasy, oxycodone pills, cocaine and methamphetamine. In addition, the officers claimed to have found $1080 in cash and a 9 mm handgun.

A person who is facing charges in Louisiana has a right to a criminal defense. Facing charges can be scary, and a person may make hasty statements to officers in the heat of the moment.  The accused is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. An experienced attorney can apprise the accused of his or her rights and help to ensure that those rights are protected throughout the criminal justice process.
