Car accidents result in untold suffering

The effects of a motor vehicle accident reach beyond those in the vehicles. If drivers and passengers suffer injuries, families and loved ones suffer right along with them. When car accidents result in fatal injuries, those loved ones may never recover from the grief and loss.

One such accident occurred recently in Louisiana on a Tuesday afternoon. A man driving a box truck apparently failed to yield to a flashing traffic signal and entered an intersection just as a pickup truck crossed the intersection in front of him. The box truck collided with the side of the pickup, sending the smaller vehicle rolling onto its roof and off the road. The driver of the pickup truck was a 21-year-old woman who was seven months pregnant.

A child who was a passenger in the pickup suffered minor injuries, but the driver was transported to a Louisiana hospital with serious injuries. Two days later, the woman and her unborn child died as a result of the injuries she suffered in the crash. Police have charged the driver of the box truck for failing to yield to flashing signals, but additional charges may be filed. It is possible the driver was distracted at the time of the accident.

Distraction behind the wheel is a common reason for car accidents that lead to serious or fatal injuries. This act of negligence leaves many families struggling to recover physically, emotionally and financially. With the assistance of an attorney, those victims may be able to seek the compensation they deserve for their suffering and loss.
