Car accidents: Man charged after fatal head-on collision

One man in Louisiana is dead and another is facing charges in connection with a recent auto collision. The crash occurred in East Feliciana Parish on the morning of Tuesday, March 26, and involved a pickup truck and smaller sedan. As is the case in all car accidents where someone was killed as the result of another driver's carelessness or negligence, the surviving family members of the deceased have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver to help recoup their losses and perhaps provide some sense of closure to this terrible tragedy.

Reportedly, the accident happened around 10 a.m. on highway LA 10 near Jackson. A 34-year-old man was killed when his vehicle was struck head-on by a vehicle driven by a 60-year-old man. The older man was heading east on the highway when he apparently crossed the center line and collided with the other vehicle.

Although authorities do not suspect impairment as a causal factor in the crash, they still do not know why the man crossed into the other lane. They are continuing their investigation. The surviving driver, however, was taken into custody on a negligent homicide charge, and the report mentioned he had violated the no passing zone rule as well.

Dealing with the aftermath of car accidents in Louisiana or any other state is hard enough, but it can be compounded by the fact that the tragedy could have been prevented. Should the survivor's family elect to pursue a civil wrongful death claim against the 60-year-old driver, they can use the criminal charges against him to help establish his negligence. Although nothing will bring back their loved one, a successfully navigated suit could provide the victim's family with the finances they need to cover the unexpected expenses they now most likely face.
