Hit-and-run car accidents are a pedestrian's worst nightmare

As summer slowly creeps across bayous, Louisiana residents likely find themselves ready to enjoy being outdoors. With so much to do and see, the Creole State is gearing up for tourist season. Hoards of visitors combined with crowds of local townspeople leads to an increase in foot traffic. One downside to this is an increase in the risk for pedestrian-related car accidents

On May 17, 2018, a group of three pedestrians was making their way northbound in the southbound lane of Louisiana 665. They were walking against traffic, as is advisable for pedestrians when no sidewalk is available. A sedan driven by a 35-year-old man crossed the center line of the roadway, and began to travel north in the southbound lane.

The vehicle struck a 19-year-old pedestrian, and he suffered serious injuries. Police responded to the scene, only to find that the driver had fled. The pedestrian was pronounced dead before rescuers could attempt to render aid. Police caught the offending driver soon after. Serious charges are pending, including negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, driving left of center and not having insurance.

When car accidents involve pedestrians, it can be especially shocking to the families and loved ones of the victim. Such a sudden loss of life can be overwhelming. From medical bills and funeral expenses to possible court cases, families may be at a loss for what to do first. In such cases, it can be of great assistance to seek help in the form of a knowledgeable attorney, who may be able to render aid to grieving families, and help them find solace and justice.
