With summer fast approaching, many Louisiana residents are likely considering taking to the roads in pursuit of adventure. With travel season heating up as quickly as the weather, families look forward to taking a well-deserved vacation. With the weeks and months of planning and anticipation quickly winding down, the time draws closer to pack up the car and head for the highway. However, one thing people may not consider is the risk of being involved in a serious car accident.
On May 13, a 46-year-old female was traveling on LA 17 when she crossed over the center line into oncoming traffic. Her vehicle struck a sedan driven by a 24-year-old man. The male driver was reportedly unrestrained, and suffered severe injuries as a result of the collision. He was quickly transported to a local hospital, but he was soon pronounced dead.
The driver was properly restrained, but she also suffered injuries. She was taken to a hospital for treatment. Louisiana police are currently investigating the crash. It is currently not known whether intoxication was a factor in the crash. Toxicology samples were collected from the drivers, and police have indicated charges are pending.
When tragedy strikes as the result of car accidents, the loss of life can be such a traumatic experience that many families may feel as if there is nowhere to turn for help. Despite the grief they must now overcome, there can be very real side effects to a car accident. Things like medical bills, court cases, funeral expenses and insurance paperwork must be dealt with, even when people are overcome by sadness. On some occasions, it can be helpful to seek the aid of an experienced attorney to assist with the legal issues that inevitably follow serious car wrecks.
