What starts out as a loving, caring and supportive relationship can end in a contentious battle. While many Louisiana couples will likely follow the advice of family law attorneys to reach a quick and amicable end to a divorce, some will be painfully extended by ongoing arguments between a couple. One couple in another state has not yet reached a divorce agreement and may have to go to trial to end their marriage.
Jesse Jackson Jr. and his wife Sandi are not strangers to public scrutiny. Prior to the news of their marital battles, the couple was involved in a campaign fraud scandal. Each was convicted and each spent time in prison. Jesse was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for his home state, and Sandi formerly served as a city council member.
Apparently, the Illinois couple has been in a heated divorce battle and was recently rumored to have reached a settlement. The rumors have been dismissed, and it now appears that a trial may be necessary. Lawyers on both sides have made plans to subpoena multiple people, including one prospective candidate for Mayor of Chicago. It is unclear what circumstances have prevented the couple from reaching an agreement.
With the assistance of family law attorneys, most couples can avoid a divorce trial. Although, it may still be a painful process, many couples are able to negotiate fair agreements regarding property division, child support, alimony and custody. Family law attorneys can advise parties involved in divorce proceedings of the best approach to end their marriage.
