Crimes involving children are not taken lightly by the public, law enforcement or the judicial system. When a defendant is convicted of a crime involving children, prosecutors may be likely to request the maximum punishment for all charges against a defendant. Louisiana residents may be interested to learn about a man who is likely securing a criminal defense attorney after being arrested for kidnapping.
The 37-year-old man allegedly took four children from their Florida home with the intent to return them the same night. The mother reported that the children were not returned, and she was unaware of their location. She did not report their alleged kidnapping for three days. A search quickly began, involving different agencies of law enforcement including U.S. Marshals and the FBI.
Authorities intended to issue an amber alert, but the suspect was apprehended before it could be issued. The man was located at a construction site where he may have been employed. Apparently, the man was the father of three of the four children, and they were found in another undisclosed location. It is unknown if the children suffered any harm.
The man’s defense strategy will likely be tough to navigate. He has an unfortunate history of other criminal offenses, including drug charges, assault and immigration issues. In addition, he crossed state lines and may face federal charges. No matter the difficulty, criminal defense attorneys are ready for any challenge an accused person may present. Even if a conviction seems unavoidable, Louisiana attorneys can often negotiate for a reduction in charges or lesser punishment.
