Car accidents: did distracted driving result in a fatality?

Louisiana authorities are pleading with drivers to avoid all methods of distracted driving. Authorities are witnessing many car accidents that are a result of cell phone use and looking away from the road for anything as simple as talking to a passenger. One recent tragic accident has authorities again pleading to maintain safety on the roads. A recent three-car collision resulted in three drivers suffering injuries and the death of one passenger.

All three vehicles involved in the collision were traveling in the same direction on Interstate 310. The first driver whose actions may have begun the chain reaction apparently swerved her sedan, which resulted in her rear-ending another sedan. The second vehicle involved was driven by a 25-year-old male and a 21-year-old passenger inside. The impact of the other vehicle spun the second vehicle around, leaving it stopped across the lane; the passenger's side door was facing oncoming traffic.

A third vehicle driven by a 22-year-old female could not stop in time and crashed into the second vehicle. The passenger in the second vehicle suffered serious injuries and died the following day despite medical treatment. All three drivers also suffered injuries but are expected to survive. Authorities stated that impairment did not seem to be a factor, but blood test results will confirm. Authorities are still investigating to confirm if seat belts were worn, if speeding occurred and if distracting driving may have resulted in the collision.

In a matter of moments, a young woman's life was endangered, and her family was left to mourn her loss. In similar car accidents where distracted driving may have factored in a tragedy, families of deceased victims may have an option to file a wrongful death lawsuit in civil court. Louisiana attorneys can advise families of their rights, options and chances of securing compensation to help cover medical and funeral expenses.
